DHG Donates 270,875 Pounds of Food in Fourth-Annual Count the Cans Campaign

— Over 8,000 Cans of Food Donated in Central Virginia —

Richmond, VA., July 9, 2015 – Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP “DHG”, a full-service CPA and advisory firm, recently donated 270,875 pounds of food to the communities it serves across 12 states of the firm’s footprint.  The fourth annual Dixon Hughes Goodman Count the Cans food drive was held from June 5-12 and focused on collecting monetary and non-perishable food donations in an effort serve communities and families who face the struggle of hunger.  Over the four year duration of the firm’s annual food drive, over 3.2 Million pounds of food have been donated to local food banks in the Southern and Mid-Atlantic states.

“Our goal is making a positive impact on the Central Virginia community.  During the summer, food banks have a hard time keeping their shelves stocked and children who typically rely on school breakfasts and lunches are out of school, creating a real need for alternative sources of food.  Our partners and professionals donated canned food and volunteered at FeedMore and the Chesterfield Food Bank as a way to give back to Central Virginia. DHG is committed helping the lives of families and individuals who are facing challenging times,” said Paul Thompson, DHG Central Virginia Market Managing Partner.

In the Richmond and Chester DHG offices, employees donated over 5,600 cans of food to the Central Virginia Food Bank (FeedMore) and over 2,400 cans to the Chesterfield Food Bank.  As part of the DHG’s campaign theme to “Stick a Fork in Hunger,” Richmond staff volunteered 90 hours of service at FeedMore this year and Chester office staff volunteered 20 hours of service at the Chesterfield Food Bank.  DHG’s Count the Cans campaign draws focus to nutritional and protein-packed items with “Fruity Friday” and “Tuna Tuesday.” This year 59,055 cans of fruit were collected firm-wide on Fruity Friday and 33,527 cans of tuna were collected on Tuna Tuesday. Over the campaign’s 11-day period, DHG partners and professionals logged more than 1,400 hours of service packing food, cooking and serving meals across the firm footprint in local communities.
